Molecular Formula: C21H31COOH
Molecular Weight: 328.5g/mol
Descript ion:
Light yellow to light beige free-flowing dry powder consists of fine spherical particles.
Composition:
The particles contain microencapsulated microbial oil rich in docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) that is embedded in a matrix of gum Arabic (e414), sucrose and coated with starch. The product contains sodium ascorbate (E301, ascorbyl palmitate (E304), lecithin (E322) and DL-alpha-tocopherol (E307) as antioxidants.
Solubility:
The product can be dispersed even in cold water to form a stable milky emulsion with good longterm stability.
Specification of Oil:
Microbial oil containing docosahexaenoic acid in triglyceride form. The oil is produced by fermentation based on the fungus.
Proportion of fatty acids in oil:
(approximate data in weigh-%)
DHA: 42%
Other omega-3 fatty acids: 14%
Omega-6 fatty acids: 1%
Other fatty acids: 43%
Monographs:
No monographs exist for Dry DHA sperical particle.
Particle-size distribution:
100 % smaller than 425µm (40mesh USP)
min. 90% smaller than 250µm (60mesh USP)
max. 12% smaller than 150µm (100mesh USP)
Bulk density: Approx. 0.6g/ml
Loss on drying: =5% (4 hours at 105°C)
Stabilization/Stability:
The product is sensitive to air, heat and light. It is recommended to use up the contents of the containers quickly, once they have been opened. The product is stable for at least 24 months in the unopened original container at room temperature (about 25oC)
Applications:
Food products:
The product is suitable for enrichment of basic food products especially dairy-based products.
Dietetic products:
The product is suitable in particular for enrichment of infant formula and maternal nutrition products where is a specific need for DHA supplementation.
