Red chillis contain high amounts of vitamin C and pro vitamin A. Because, of the high amounts of vitamin C some athletes consume chilli pepper before starting their exercises. Green chillis contain considerably lower amounts of above said substances. In addition to this a chilli pepper is a good source of vitamin B and vitamin B6. They are very high in potassium, magnesium and iron. The high vitamin C content in red chillis helps to increace the uptake of non-heme iron from other ingredients in the meal, such as beans and grains.
