The major producers of commercial saffron are Iran , Greece , Spain and Indian Kashmir. However Iran accounts for the 90% of the saffron produced in the world. Iranian saffron is desirable due to its organoleptic characteristics (color, odor and flavor) as well as its competitive price.
Each saffron plant, flowers in October and may yield more than one flower per season. They bloom at night and it is hand picked in the morning before sunrise in order to avoid any damage. Saffron has a difficult production conditions and requires a large number of manpower (170,000 saffron flowers will produce 1 kilogram of saffron).
Once collected and separated, it is sent to VIRAMAN accredited laboratory for hygienic tests and analysis of natural color discharge, aroma and taste. Finally after having passed all the necessary tests, it is processed for export packing and delivered by air to the clients.
Export packing
VIRAMAN exports saffron preferably in bulk under trade name of VIRA.Export saffron is packed in 3-layer durable poly bags of aluminum foil which are flexible and impermeable to foreign elements of light, humidity and any odor or aroma.The capacity of bags is 1 kg. net. The bag is thermo sealed on top.12 bags are placed in a firm durable carton separated from one another. The bags are free from any harmful material and are fully hygienic approved by the Iranian Standard Department
